That Which Gave Chase
A downloadable game for Windows
I have placed a lot of trust in you.
Wish I didn't have to,
but my hand is forced.
---
A scientist, seeking to return to the expedition he had to abandon, hires a sled dog musher to bring him on the last leg of his journey.
That Which Gave Chase is an experimental, narrative-driven dog sledding thriller set in the vast, frozen wastes of the arctic. Playing as a sled dog musher, you must maneuver your dogs through treacherous terrain, guided by a stranger who promises great reward should you both arrive at your destination unharmed.
Playtime: Around 45-60 minutes.
Steam key and game soundtrack included with all purchases.
Features:
- First-person, physics-based dog sledding. Plan your route and keep your sled from tipping over as you venture through challenging terrain, ranging from linear paths to more open-ended yet contained spaces.
- A mix of adventure and light horror elements, with a linear walking sim-like structure. This game is story-focused and somewhat text heavy, with an emphasis on mood and atmosphere.
- Experience a disjointed narrative utilizing sudden cuts and a constant unnerving atmosphere. Retrace the steps of an arctic expedition as you venture further and further into the grey.
- An average playthrough of That Which Gave Chase will take around 45-60 minutes. Keep your eyes open and learn to read the strange place you find yourself in, and you may find there is more to uncover.

Just 100%ed it on Steam.
Liked the unique setting and great atmosphere.
I'm also very impressed by the scale, complexity, and polish. Amazing piece of art!
amazing controls and mechanics. reloading is handled better here than AAA games. you actually scan books to read them. i replayed the game because the sledding was so enjoyable.
also really liked the setting and i was really fuckin scared.
** spoilers **
i died over an over on the stampede section but i honestly loved it! it was very very nice of the dev to have an option to skip it tho, but i perserved and got through it eventually. on my replay i got through it first try and it was awesome, dunno if its scripted but i tipped my sled right at the end but that was fucking cool.
I remember this from the haunted demo disc its super good
This looks awesome. Can't wait to play it!
Love the graphic style 👍👌 32 bit all the way ❤️
This thing rocks. Can't reccomend it highly enough.
I didn´t expect this to be such a well polished game. Spooky athmosphere, mysterious story. Incredible game.
I rate sled dog games and this has been handsdown the best sled dog mechanics I've had a joy to play. The animation and controls of it were bangon. Is that a howling dog alaska or manmat harness? Been discussing it with fellow enthusiasts.
The story was a bit confusing at times, although I enjoyed trying to work out what was going on, but the highlights for me were sledding away from the stampede, navigating the sled through trees, finding the missing sled dogs, following deer out of the fog. I finished the game in about 90 minutes but I could honestly just have an entire game out of navigating different environments with that sled. Well done!
I loved this game. The dog sled mechanics were so cool. Can't wait to see what you come up with next!
I enjoyed the game, but would have preferred a more straightforward presentation: because it was often confusing, the end result for me was being pulled out of immersion, not feeling I was the game character, just someone playing a game. Still, great atmosphere in many sections. Also: works perfectly in Linux. :-)
Awesome game. Just finished it on Steam and can absolutely recommend.
Quiet terror. Really, really incredible. Very excited for more of this creator's work.
Just finished it, a truly delightfully unnerving experience, that leaves me with a desire to explore more of this mysterious and frightening arctic setting. I strongly recommend this game, and I hope that the dev continues to make more games.
Fantastic game. Can't believe this your first game, keep at it!
Impossible to install.
Looks like it worked itself out? Saw you were streaming.
Yeap had to dowload it in the browser. Good Game!
Ill say it again from the demo, that animation of him turning around and smiling at you is so damn good, so simple but so creepy. Good stuff thank you

Really enjoyed this game dude! Actual great job, looking forward to what you do next!
The game is unique and have that vibe of some slow pacing movies. For me story is great (as not natvie english speaker i don't know i understand everything correctly), the are great moments in game but dont feel them right because you are little bored similarities of scenes. Love the scenes transition, i fell like be in the movie.
I think you'll appreciate the game the most after you've finished it.
I don't know WHY I decided to play this at 12am but this scared the shit out of me! No spoilers, but towards the end of the game I desperately kept thinking "okay please please let this be over let me go home." The dialogue is so eerie. The pacing is amazing, too. And so so atmospheric! It's been said before, but it really captures the desperation of hopelessly wandering a vast, empty wasteland. Had no issues running on my computer, either (granted my computer is decent). Thanks for letting me pet the dogs, it was honestly the only thing keeping me sane throughout this! Just so spooky. Will linger in my brain for a good long while!
This was such an amazing game. I just stumbled across it and the atmosphere you build through out the game is fantastic. Also the transitions are so jarring and well done. Absolutely can't wait to see what you make next!
I thought this game was dead. One of my favorite games from Demo Disc 2021.
Instant buy!
me too! I forgot about this game until i saw it while mindlessly scrolling through itch
incredible, please make more games :p
this game really brings you in and makes you feel lost in the vastness of the artic, I strongly recommend
A wonderful experience that I've been waiting for since I got my hands on the demo. Strong recommendation for anyone who's into strange games, especially horror.
The gameplay truly aided in building the mood, from steering the sled to frantically loading your rifle, it all built up to a cohesive experience and I wouldn't change a thing. One of my favorite parts, which also stood out from the demo, is the hard cuts between scenes that give the experience a cinematic feel, while also adding to the feeling of being lost and not fully in control of what's happening around you.
Feels like a combination of Paratopic and Black Mountain Side
I loved the demo on the PS1 demo disc. I hope you release it on steam or another platform, since i'm from brazil and the prices on itch.io tend to be a bit too much 😭 will keep an eye on it 💜
This game is very unique and well worth it I'd say. It's a nice experience that keeps you on the edge of your seat!
This game is everything I hoped it would be. I saw a preview on Twitter some time ago and could already feel the bleakness of the setting through a few shots. The game shows you how it works and then leaves you alone to use what you know. The minimalist sound design and the use of sparse but heavy sound cues adds to the quiet dread of the atmosphere so well. Lots of cinematic show-don't-tell, which I liked a lot. Excellent work
Demo was great, excited for full game
which demo?
I think on the Haunted PS1 Demo Disc 2021 this game was featured.
Yep correct, https://hauntedps1.itch.io/demodisc2021 I hope Aslak doesn't mind me linking it for visibility. The demo had great atmosphere and was really intriguing .
Not at all, thank you!
